Consumer protection
The general-purpose consumer statutes that sit behind every real-estate transaction. Where the REA Act governs the licensee specifically, the CGA and FTA govern all service providers in trade.
CGA Tier 1
Consumer Guarantees Act 1993
Statutory guarantees on goods and services supplied to consumers. Section 28 (reasonable care and skill in services) applies to real estate agents, building inspectors, and valuers.
FTA Tier 1
Fair Trading Act 1986
Prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct in trade. Section 9 is the general prohibition; section 13 covers specific false representations.
